An Act To Allow a Resident Veteran's Child Who Is Enrolled in an Out-of-state College or University To Take a Course in Maine at a State Postsecondary Education Institution for Free
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 37-B MRSA §390-D is enacted to read:
§ 390-D. Free course for certain children of veterans
1. Definitions. As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the following meanings.
A. "Course" has the same meaning as in section 352, subsection 1.
B. "State postsecondary education institution" has the same meaning as in section 352, subsection 4.
C. "Veteran" means a person who has served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces including the Reserves of the United States Armed Forces and the National Guard and received a discharge other than dishonorable.
2. Free course. A person who is enrolled as a student at a postsecondary education institution outside this State and who is the child of a veteran who is a resident of this State may take one course at a state postsecondary education institution with no charge for tuition. This tuition benefit must be provided in the form of a tuition waiver provided by the state postsecondary education institution.
