An Act To Include the Vehicles of Emergency Medical Services Persons in the Firefighter Registration Plate Program

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §519, sub-§8 is enacted to read:

8. Special firefighter registration plate for emergency medical services persons. The Secretary of State shall make available under this section a special firefighter registration plate to an emergency medical services person. The registration plate must have the same design as the special firefighter registration plate except that a standard emergency medical services emblem is used instead of the firefighter emblem. A member of an emergency medical service licensed by the Department of Public Safety, Maine Emergency Medical Services may request a special firefighter registration plate for emergency medical services persons under this subsection.

Sec. 2. Contingent effective date. This Act does not take effect unless the Secretary of State receives donations from public or private sources to cover the costs, as determined by the Secretary of State, of special firefighter registration plates for emergency medical services persons for those eligible as a result of this Act. Donations under this section must be deposited into the Specialty License Plate Fund established in the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 29-A, section 469. The Secretary of State shall notify the Secretary of the Senate, the Clerk of the House of Representatives and the Revisor of Statutes when the Secretary of State has received the donations required under this section.

The bill also provides that the issuance of special firefighter registration plates for emergency medical services persons for those eligible is contingent upon the Secretary of State's receiving donations from public or private sources to cover the cost of the registration plates.
