An Act To Allow Municipalities To Include Itemized Fees on Property Tax Bills
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 36 MRSA §507, first ¶, as repealed and replaced by PL 2007, c. 432, §1 and affected by §2, is amended to read:
A Except as provided in subsection 5, a municipality that issues a property tax bill to a taxpayer must issue the following information.
Sec. 2. 36 MRSA §507, sub-§5 is enacted to read:
5. Other information. A municipality that issues a property tax bill to a taxpayer may include in the bill other fees or assessments owed by the taxpayer to the municipality. Information included in a tax bill under this subsection must be itemized and distinct from the information required in a tax bill under this section.
SUMMARY
This bill allows a municipality that issues a property tax bill to a taxpayer to include in the tax bill other fees or assessments owed by the taxpayer to the municipality if the other fees and assessments are itemized and distinct from the information on the tax bill that is required by law.
