Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. Report. The Maine Criminal Justice Academy shall report to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over criminal justice and public safety matters by January 1, 2018, and every 4 months thereafter until January 1, 2022, on mental health first aid training that has been provided to corrections officers. The report must provide data on the hours of mental health first aid training provided to corrections officers across the State by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy as basic training or ongoing training and by the law enforcement agencies that employ the corrections officers as part of ongoing training provided as a requirement of employment.’

SUMMARY

This amendment is the minority report of the committee. The amendment requires that the Maine Criminal Justice Academy periodically report on the hours of mental health first aid training provided to corrections officers across the State by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy as basic training and as ongoing training and by the law enforcement agencies that employ the corrections officers as part of ongoing training provided as a requirement of employment.
