Amend the bill by striking out the title and substituting the following:
‘Resolve, Directing the State Workforce Investment Board To Create the Maine Family First Employer Program’
Amend the bill by striking out everything after the title and before the summary and inserting the following:
‘Sec. 1. State Workforce Investment Board to create program. Resolved: That the State Workforce Investment Board, established under the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 26, section 2006, shall create the Maine Family First Employer Program as an award program to recognize businesses whose policies and practices address the unique needs of working families in the State. The board or its designee shall establish a procedure for businesses to apply for the award designation with an open application period each year and shall review applications and award Family First Employer status to eligible selected businesses. The board or its designee may adopt criteria to guide its evaluation of businesses under the program. The criteria may include flexible work schedules, leave and vacation policies, workplace accommodations, flexible benefit packages, job-sharing, child care options and any policy that promotes the hiring or retention of working parents.
The board or its designee may create a logo for the designation that may be used by businesses that receive the award. The board or its designee may determine the length of the award designation and may allow businesses to reapply for the designation. The board or its designee may post on its publicly accessible website a list of all designated Family First Employers.’
SUMMARY
This amendment strikes the bill and replaces it with a resolve directing the State Workforce Investment Board to create the Maine Family First Employer Program to award businesses whose policies and practices address the unique needs of working families in the State with a Family First Employer designation.
