An Act To Remove the Law Mandating a Front License Plate

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §452, sub-§1,  as amended by PL 2005, c. 577, §10, is further amended to read:

1. Position of registration plate.   A registration plate must be displayed horizontally. Only one set of Maine registration plates plate may be displayed on one a vehicle. A registration plate must be attached to the front and the rear of each vehicle except as follows.
A. A trailer and semitrailer registration plate may be attached only to the rear of that trailer or semitrailer.
B A motorcycle registration plate may not be attached to the front of that motorcycle.
C A manufacturer, dealer or transporter registration plate may be attached only to the rear of the vehicle.
D. A truck tractor registration plate may be attached only to the front of that truck tractor.

Sec. 2. Additional changes to law. The Department of the Secretary of State, Bureau of Motor Vehicles shall submit a bill to the Second Regular Session of the 128th Legislature to make changes in the Maine Revised Statutes to fully implement this Act.
