An Act To Promote Early Detection of Breast Cancer
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 24-A MRSA §4320-K is enacted to read:
§ 4320-K. Coverage for screening magnetic resonance imaging scan
1. Definitions. As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the following meanings.
A. "Dense breast tissue" means breast tissue that is classified as dense based on the breast imaging reporting and data system established by the American College of Radiology, or its successor.
B. "Screening magnetic resonance imaging scan" means a magnetic resonance imaging scan that is provided to an asymptomatic woman for the purpose of early detection of breast cancer.
2. Required coverage. A carrier offering a health plan in this State shall provide coverage for a magnetic resonance imaging scan after a baseline mammogram examination if the mammogram demonstrates dense breast tissue.
