Fiscal Detail
and Notes |
This legislation
reduces motor vehicle excise tax mill rates by 10% per year until it reaches
50% of the current rate. It would
result in a reduction of General Fund revenue of $15,278 and $45,835 in
fiscal years 2017-18 and 2018-19, respectively, for excise tax collected on
non-residents registering vehicles in Maine. |
The loss of
revenue to municipalities would be for residents registering vehicles in
Maine and would therefore be substantially greater than the loss of revenue
to the State for non-residents. No estimate of this loss is made at this
time. |
