An Act To Require Snow Tires or All-weather Tires on Automobiles from October through April
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1927 is enacted to read:
§ 1927. Snow tires; all-weather tires
1. Tires required. Beginning December 1, 2019, automobiles registered in this State may not be operated from the 2nd day of October to the last day of April without appropriate snow tires or all-weather tires as defined by the Chief of the State Police pursuant to subsection 2.
2. Rulemaking. The Chief of the State Police shall adopt rules to implement this section, including but not limited to rules:
A. Defining "snow tires" and "all-weather tires"; and
B. Designating a method for identifying that a tire meets the requirements of the rules.
Rules adopted pursuant to this section are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
