1. Grandparent.   "Grandparent" is a parent of a child's parent or the parent of the parent of a child's parent. "Grandparent" includes a parent of a child's parent whose parental rights have been terminated pursuant to Title 18-C, section 9-204 or Title 22, chapter 1071, subchapter 6, but only until the child's adoption.

Sec. 3. Maine Revised Statutes headnote amended; revision clause. In the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 19-A, chapter 59, in the chapter headnote, the words "visitation rights of grandparents" are amended to read "visitation rights of grandparents and great-grandparents" and the Revisor of Statutes shall implement this revision when updating, publishing or republishing the statutes.’

SUMMARY

This amendment strikes the bill, which is a concept draft, and replaces the title accordingly. It amends the definition of "grandparent" in the Grandparents Visitation Act to include great-grandparents. It also amends the title of the chapter of the statutes and the short title of the Act to include great-grandparents. This amendment does not affect the standing requirements or the standard for awarding visiting rights.
