An Act To Provide Noncommercial Lobster and Crab Fishing Licenses and Scallop Licenses to Disabled Veterans at No Cost
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §6421, sub-§5-F is enacted to read:
5-F. Disabled veteran. Notwithstanding subsections 5, 5-B, 5-D, 5-E, 7-B and 7-C, a resident disabled veteran may obtain upon application, at no cost, a noncommercial lobster and crab fishing license. The commissioner shall issue a license requested under this subsection if the commissioner determines the applicant meets the requirements of this subsection. For the purposes of this subsection, "disabled veteran" means a person who:
A. Was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard; and
B. Has a service-connected disability evaluated at 50% or more.
Each application must be accompanied by satisfactory evidence that the applicant meets the requirements of this subsection.
Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §6703, sub-§4-A is enacted to read:
4-A. Disabled veteran. Notwithstanding subsection 4, a resident disabled veteran may obtain upon application, at no cost, a noncommercial scallop license. The commissioner shall issue a license under this subsection if the commissioner determines the applicant meets the requirements of this subsection. For the purposes of this subsection, "disabled veteran" means a person who:
A. Was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard; and
B. Has a service-connected disability evaluated at 50% or more.
Each application must be accompanied by satisfactory evidence that the applicant meets the requirements of this subsection.
Summary
This bill allows a resident disabled veteran to obtain upon application, at no cost, a noncommercial lobster and crab fishing license or a noncommercial scallop license.
