An Act To Allow Law Enforcement Officers To Wear Insignia on Their Uniforms To Indicate That They Are Veterans
Sec. 1. 25 MRSA c. 411 is enacted to read:
CHAPTER 411
MILITARY INSIGNIA ON THE UNIFORMS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
§ 3851. Military insignia on the uniforms of law enforcement officers
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a law enforcement officer employed by the State, a county or a municipality may wear insignia on the law enforcement officer's uniform to indicate that the law enforcement officer is a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States. The Department of Public Safety shall adopt rules to implement this section. Rules adopted pursuant to this section are routine technical rules pursuant to Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
SUMMARY
This bill allows a law enforcement officer employed by the State, a county or a municipality to wear insignia on the law enforcement officer's uniform to indicate that the law enforcement officer is a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States. It directs the Department of Public Safety to adopt routine technical rules to implement the change in law.
