An Act To Protect the Lobster Industry by Providing to Consumers Information Regarding Live Lobsters Sold in the State
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §6006 is enacted to read:
§ 6006. Information to consumers; lobsters
1. Information to consumers. The department shall implement a program that provides to consumers information regarding live lobsters sold in the State. The information, which may be conveyed through labeling, must inform a consumer whether the lobster was:
A. Stored in a tube or other confined compartment that does not allow the lobster to move freely within the tube or compartment;
B. Caught or landed in a location other than in this State or the waters of this State and, if so, where; and
C. Stored in a lobster pound for more than 7 days.
2. Rules. The department shall adopt rules to implement this section. Rules adopted pursuant to this subsection are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.

This bill directs the Department of Marine Resources to implement a program to provide to consumers information regarding live lobsters sold in the State. The information, which may be conveyed through labeling, must convey to the consumer certain information regarding the location in which the lobster was landed and the method and length of time of storage.
