This amendment
changes provisions in the bill that allowed retail establishments to retain
the revenue from a 5¢ fee charged for each reusable bag made of plastic and
for each recycled paper bag used to bag products at the point of sale. Instead, revenue from the fee will accrue
to the Department of Environmental Protection for distribution to
conservation organizations selected through rulemaking. An estimate of the revenue generated by the
fee and the amount of funding available for distribution to conservation
organizations is not made at this time.
However, it is expected to be significant. |
