This legislation
increases the amount of the salary supplement paid to certain eligible
teachers who have attained certification from the National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards from $3,000 to $5,000 beginning in fiscal
year 2020-21. The bill requires the
Department of Education to determine the cost of this provision and report
the amount to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs
no later than January 1, 2020 and authorizes the committee to submit a bill
to the Second Regular Session of the 129th Legislature. |
|
The cost of
providing the national board certification salary supplement is included in
the calculation of the total cost of public education from kindergarten to
grade 12 as part of the targeted education funds. Unless the State provides 100% of the
funding needed to cover the cost of the increase in the supplement beginning
in fiscal year 2020-21, the department may choose to continue its current
practice of providing a prorated salary supplement in order to stay within
current funding levels. |
