|   | | Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts of the Legislature do not become | | effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as | | emergencies; and |

 |   | | Whereas, current law requiring professional land surveyors to | | complete 12 hours of continuing education to renew their licenses | | biennially will be repealed on March 1, 1999; and |

 |   | | Whereas, the next renewal date for the approximately 860 | | professional land surveyors currently licensed is December 31, | | 1999; and |

 |   | | Whereas, the intent of this legislation is to continue requiring | | continuing education for professional land surveyors so it is | | necessary to remove the repeal as soon as possible; and |

 |   | | Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create | | an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and | | require the following legislation as immediately necessary for | | the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, | | therefore, |

 |   | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

 |   | | Sec. 1. 32 MRSA §13908, sub-§4, last ¶, as amended by PL 1995, c. 353, | | §26, is repealed. |

 |   | | Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, | | this Act takes effect when approved. |

 |   | | This bill removes the March 1, 1999 repeal provision that | | eliminates the continuing education requirement for professional | | land surveyors. |
