Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts of the Legislature do not become
effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as
emergencies; and

 
Whereas, current law requiring professional land surveyors to
complete 12 hours of continuing education to renew their licenses
biennially will be repealed on March 1, 1999; and

 
Whereas, the next renewal date for the approximately 860
professional land surveyors currently licensed is December 31,
1999; and

 
Whereas, the intent of this legislation is to continue requiring
continuing education for professional land surveyors so it is
necessary to remove the repeal as soon as possible; and

 
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create
an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and
require the following legislation as immediately necessary for
the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now,
therefore,

 
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 32 MRSA §13908, sub-§4, last ¶, as amended by PL 1995, c. 353,
§26, is repealed.

 
Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble,
this Act takes effect when approved.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill removes the March 1, 1999 repeal provision that
eliminates the continuing education requirement for professional
land surveyors.
