§2512-A.__Postmortem examination and inspection

1.__Postmortem examination.__The commissioner, by inspectors appointed for that purpose, shall perform a postmortem examination and inspection of the carcass of an animal that is fit for human food at a slaughtering, meat-canning, salting, packing, rendering or similar establishment in this State in which meat and meat food products are prepared for intrastate commerce.

2.__Carcass not adulterated.__The carcass of an animal found to be not adulterated must be marked, stamped, tagged or labeled as "Inspected and Passed."__After the first inspection, an inspector may reinspect a carcass to determine whether that carcass has been adulterated since the first inspection.

3.__Adulterated carcass.__If, after a first or 2nd inspection, a carcass is found to be adulterated, the carcass must be marked, stamped, tagged or labeled "Inspected and Condemned."__A carcass that is inspected and condemned must be destroyed for food purposes by the establishment in the presence of an inspector.

§2513.__Application

Sections 2512 and 2512-A apply to all carcasses of animals and the meat or meat products of those carcasses, fit for human food, that are brought into a slaughtering, meat-canning, salting, packing, rendering or similar establishment where inspection under this subchapter is maintained, and the examination and inspection must be performed before those carcasses are allowed to enter into any department where they are to be treated and prepared for meat food products.__Sections 2512 and 2512-A apply to all products that, after having been issued from a slaughtering, meat-canning, salting, packing, rendering or similar establishment, must be returned to the same or to any similar establishment where inspection is maintained.
