Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1751, sub-§2, ¶B, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

B. Brakes, including brake friction material;

Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §1751, sub-§3, as amended by PL 1997, c. 786, §2, is repealed.

Sec. 3. 29-A MRSA §1751, sub-§3-A is enacted to read:

3-A.__Inspection fee.__An inspection station may charge a fee for inspecting a vehicle, whether the vehicle passes inspection or not.

SUMMARY

This bill requires inspection stations as part of the standard vehicle inspection to inspect the brake friction material of a vehicle. The bill also repeals the statutorily set inspection fees, allowing inspection stations to set their own fees.
