Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §285, sub-§3-B is enacted to read:

3-B.__Annual open enrollment period for retirees.__A health plan offered to a person eligible pursuant to subsection 1, paragraph G and subsection 1-A must provide an annual 2-week open enrollment period to allow the insured the option of extending coverage to dependents, at appropriate rates and under the same terms and conditions as those benefits are offered during other declared open enrollment periods.

SUMMARY

This bill increases the length of time in which a retired state employee may add a dependent to the employee's health insurance plan by establishing an annual 2-week open enrollment period to add dependents.
