What is Maine's Law on Recording & Surveillance of Private Conversations
15 MRS , c. 102 addresses the interception of wire and oral communications, including several exceptions (see 15 MRS §712).
15 MRS §711 states, in part, “Any party to a conversation intercepted, disclosed or used in violation of this chapter shall have a civil cause of action against any person who intercepts, discloses or uses such communications…” It also addresses damages and attorney’s fees.
17-A MRSA §511 of the Maine Criminal Code addresses violation of privacy.
Title 18, Chapter 119 of the United States Code also addresses wire and electronic communications interception and interception of oral communications.
